Getting our freak on with an original NEVE 33609 Analogue Compressor

One of the vintage gems at the SWT Mastering studio is the original – metal knob – NEVE 33609 two-channel analogue compressor. A compressor that we use a lot for mastering because of its very transparant compression, ranging in ratio from 1,5:1 all the way up to 6:1 for a slamming sound. In our experience, you will have to ride the compression pretty hard before it becomes audible. Just as we use some of our vintage EMI units to “color” the sound – the 33609 makeup-gain circuit is great for adding a little more grit and warmth to audio and can be used even if no compression is needed.
